To all TYSA Families,
It is with much excitement, that I write to you today to let you know about an exciting development at TYSA. As of May 19th, 2013, the Board of Directors for TYSA, Gwinnett Soccer Association (GSA) and Atlanta Spurs FC have voted to form a Joint Venture that will combine the Academy Jr, Academy and Select programs in to a new organization, to be called Gol Soccer Academy. Gol Soccer Academy will operate out of GSA’s Cole Road facility, TYSA’s Granite facility, Silverbacks Park, Galloway Sports Complex Buckhead and a new facility in Decatur.
TYSA’s Recreational soccer program will remain as is – operating at Henderson Park, as it has since 1985. Moving forward, due to the relationship with GSA, we may start to interschedule teams from the U8, U10 and U12 age groups, in order to increase the number of teams we play. These games, if scheduled, will be played at either the Henderson Park Facility or at the Cole Road facility. During the past two seasons, we have interscheduled the U10 girls teams at GSA and TYSA, which has lead to the scheduling of games with more teams. TYSA’s recreational soccer program will continue to be overseen by Director of Coaching, Gareth O’ Sullivan.
TYSA’s Academy Junior program will fall under the Gol SA umbrella. This program, will be overseen by Director of Coaching, Warren Van der Westhuizen and managed by Roger Boniface.
TYSA’s current Academy program will fall under the Gol SA umbrella. This program, will be directed by Director of Coaching, Warren Van der Westhuizen. Academy Players under the Gol SA umbrella will have the choice of trying out and playing at one of four facilities, Gwinnett Soccer Academy’s facility on Cole Road, TYSA’s facility at Granite, Silverbacks Park or the facility in Decatur. Each of the facilities will continue to host vibrant Academy teams from the U8 – 12 age levels and will play all of the other Georgia soccer clubs that we currently play, as well as each other.
TYSA’s current Select program will fall under the Gol SA umbrella. The Select boys teams will be directed by Boys Select Director of Coaching Nuno Piteira. The Select girls teams will be directed by Girls Select Director of Coaching Campbell Chapman. During tryouts for the Fall 2013-Spring 2014 season, all players within a single age group will be held at a single location. This should maximize the number of teams that form under the Gol SA umbrella and will give our current players more options for playing competitive youth soccer at their level. Teams will practice at one of the four facilities, based on the preferences of each team and availability of practice space at each facility.
Moving forward, as the details and specifics of the organization are further developed, they will be communicated accordingly.
