Spring 2010 Select Goalkeeper Training
To all the TYSA Classic, Athena and Academy Goalkeepers on behalf of Warren van der Westhuizen and the TYSA organization, we would like to thank you for your time and effort, in what has been a wonderful group and individual performance . Warren will endeavor to watch you practice or participate in games further during this season and the next. Further free TYSA sessions will be made available during this Fall Season of 2009. You will also have a goalkeeper camp available for the 3rd time in TYSA history. Last year was a great success and with the great numbers from all clubs and teams around the Atlanta area , we may be introducing a second week of GK Camps in 2009.

Goal keeper training is available to all select and academy players at no additional cost. All training will be conducted at the Granite Complex. Participants will receive an evaluation at the end of every Fall Season . Training in the fundamentals will include: footwork, handling low and high balls, diving, distribution, dealing with crosses, 1v1, and communication. At the end of the season all goalkeepers will receive an evaluation.

Times: Session 1 >> 5:30pm - 6:30pm (Academy Goalkeepers ONLY)
Session 2 >> 6:30 - 7:30 (U14 - U18)
Day:
Tuesdays: April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18
Thursdays: February 4, February 25, March 4,
March 11, March 18, March 25, April 1, April 8
and April 15
The sessions will take place on Tuesday and will be available for the boys and girls. The age groups will be divided at the practice session depending on skill and experience.

Coaching Experience
Warren coached Atlanta Silverbacks' professional goalkeepers
Ryan McIntosh, and Felipe Quintero, Mexican National
Team goalkeeper. He is also the Goalkeeper Coach for
the Silverbacks PDL team.
Warren is a Regional ODP Staff Member for Region III.
He is also the ODP '91 Boys goalkeeper coach. One of
his goalkeepers is the National u16 Goalkeeper.
Warren van der Westhuizen enters his 4th season as an
assistant coach with the Clayton State University Laker
soccer program who is ranked in the Top 15 in the Nation.
In addition to his coaching duties, where he will specialize
in coaching the keepers, he also assists in recruiting,
scouting and daily soccer operations. Warren trained
the USA under 20 National Team keeper , Michael Gustavson,
who is currently playing for the San Jose Earthquakes.
Warren also coaches the Senior National Team Goalkeeper
for Antigua and Barbuda, Janiel Simon, who played in
all the qualifying matches for the World Cup 2010.
Along with coaching at Clayton State, Warren also served
in 2004 as an assistant coach and web page developer
for the Great Lakes Division Professional Development
Level (PDL) team, the West Michigan Edge.

Playing Career
Professional
Warren started his playing professional playing career
in 1997 at the age of 18 when he practiced with Morocco
Swallows in the PSL (Professional Soccer League) in
South Africa and then signed with Real Rovers of the
PSL in South Africa that same year. He ended his professional
playing career in South Africa so he could further his
studies in the USA.
Semi Professional
He most recently played for the top team in the Heartland
Division in the PDL (Professional Development League)
for the Des Moines Menace in 2003. He had the 3rd lowest
goals against average with a team-low .98 goals against
average after logging a team-high 848 minutes.
College
He started at Clayton College and State University in
May 1999 where he now is the assistant coach. Westhuizen,
a four-year letter-winner at Clayton State, holds virtually
all of the goalkeeper records in the National Record
Books ,the Peach Belt Conference and at Clayton State.
His .64 shutout percentage in 2000 ranks 5th best in
NCAA Division II history, while his .47 goals against
average that same year ranks among the top-15 all-time.
His career .64 goals against average ranks seventh in
NCAA history, while his 6,841 minutes ranks 15th.
Westhuizen was selected 3 times to the NSCAA All-Southeast
Region and All-Peach Belt Conference teams.
Education
He graduated from Clayton State University in 2003 with
a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and in
2007 received his Bachelors in Science (Psychology).
Warren is currently pursuing his Degree in Middle School
Education at Clayton State University
