2007 Elections Elections for the TYSA board will be held during the weekends of November 3 and 4 and November 10, 2007. UPCOMING ELECTIONS TYSA BOARD OF DIRECTORS TYSA will have its annual elections for the Board of Directors on the following dates:
Henderson Park Concession stand: November 3 from 9:00 – 5:00 Henderson Park Concession stand: November 4 from 1:00 – 5:00 Soccer Academy/Lilburn: November 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 Henderson Park Concession stand: November 10 from 9:00 – 5:00
If you are unable to vote at any of these locations you may request that up to two absentee ballots per family be mailed to you. Absentee ballots may be returned via to TYSA via the US mail or by having a friend or neighbor drop it off at a polling location during the polling hours. Absentee ballots received after November 10 will be discarded. For absentee ballots, please contact Nancy Marsden at admin@tysa.com
The candidates for the 2007 TYSA Board of Directors are (in alphabetical order): Mark Balte (Incumbent): Currently serving as TYSA's Executive Vice President and Board member responsible for the Academy and Academy Jr. programs. Mark has been a board member for five years and once held the position as President of the Club. He has 3 daughters playing at TYSA. Mark holds a “D” coach’s license and has coached for 14 years (8 years at TYSA), currently coaching U11 Academy Teams and assists with the U15 Athena Team. He was raised in DeKalb County, and played competitive soccer from age 6 up through collegiate and Georgia amateur levels. Pam Beard: Pam grew up playing soccer in the Atlanta area at both Clarkston High School and youth leagues. Pam played in college at Berry College where the team won the national championship. Pam has coached since she was in high school with both recreational and select programs. Pam coached a boy’s team from the age of U10 all the way through high school, three of these players went on to play in college. Pam is currently coaching her two daughters at TYSA at the U6 and U8 age groups. Pam holds a United States Soccer Federation national C license. Mike Brooks: Mike has two daughters who have played soccer for six years, at both TYSA and Decatur Dekalb YMCA. Mike’s eldest daughter is currently in the U12 Academy program and his youngest daughter is in U10 recreational program. Mike is a co-coach of his daughter’s recreational team and has also shared responsibilities with his wife as team parent. Ed Forrester: Ed has been a parent & volunteer coach at TYSA for five years. He grew up in the area, went to Henderson High School and played soccer at TYSA. He currently resides in Tucker with his wife and three sons; ages 2, 5 & 8. His oldest son played four years in TYSA’s recreational program and is now in the U-9 Academy program. This fall Ed is coaching his five-year-old son in his second year in U-6. Ed works as an equity portfolio manager for Wilmington Trust Investment Management. Lee Jordan (Incumbent): Current Treasurer – Lee has served on board for 1 year due to an open term in the Treasurer position. Lee is a CPA and partner in local Accounting firm. Lee has 26 years Accounting and Auditing experience. He has served on various Non Profit Boards as church Deacon, Treasurer, Finance Chairman, Personnel Chairman. He is a resident of Dekalb County for 44 years. Lee has 2 children at TYSA ages 16 and 6. He has been a TYSA Dad for 10 years. Lee is responsible for the improvements made in the past year with respect to Treasury management and financial reporting for the organization. Tom Langston: Tom has been a recreational coach since 2002 in both the boys and the girls divisions. Tom has also been the commissioner of the U10 boys for the past three seasons. In addition to coaching, Tom has volunteered at nearly every in-person recreational registration and at TYSA’s major yearly fund raiser – the Triumph Cup. Tom is also a certified referee. Tom is married and has two children, Sara and Thomas. Byant Mackey (Incumbent): Bryant is the current U-6 Commissioner. This entry-level recreational program currently has over 250 children playing on over 40 different teams. Bryant's primary job as a board member is to recruit coaches and divide the players into six-player-coed teams. He has held this position for one year, and has four years (eight seasons) of U-6 coaching experience. Bryant has played soccer for more than thirty years, including four years on the men's varsity team at The University of the South (Sewanee), and he is a stay-at-home father to four children. Liz McGee: Liz has one child currently playing at TYSA at the Soccer Academy program in the U17 Classic age group. Liz has had one or more children playing at TYSA for over five years. Liz has been a team manager for four years and has assisted in registration and the tryouts for several years. Liz has also been a venue director during the Triumph Cup. Professionally Liz has worked as a medical social worker with premature infants for over 20 years and is married with two children. Margaret Ray (Incumbent): Margaret currently serves on the board as Director of Team Uniforms and Supplies and has been a board member for 5 years. In that position, she chaired the committee to evaluate several uniform brands/vendors, resulting in selection of the Nike Uniforms, apparel and equipment that are now a part of the TYSA select/academy program. She also negotiated the TYSA Nike/Eurosport contract. Margaret is a parent of two long-time TYSA players/referees. She has served as an assistant recreation coach and Triumph Cup venue director. Greg Sjogren: Greg and his wife Tina have 5 children. Their oldest child started TYSA soccer at the U6 level and is currently on the Academy U11 boys team. Greg volunteered as an assistant coach for each of his U6 and U8 teams. After building experience as an assistant coach, Greg volunteered to coach his second son’s U6 team. Greg has coached 3 years in U6. This year Greg volunteered to coach his son’s U8 team and his oldest daughter’s U6 team. With two more children who aren’t yet old enough to play at TYSA, Greg looks forward to many years of active participation in the TYSA program. Ray Zeigler: Ray has two daughters, Randi and Christina, who have played soccer at TYSA for 4 years. Ray is an Assistant Coach for Randi's team. Christina is in her first year as a referee. Ray has been in the Atlanta area for 23 years. Ray is in his second term on the Henderson Mill School Council, and he has also volunteered as a Girl Scout cookie Dad.
